Dr. Keira Barr, MD is the double-board certified dermatologist who has redefined skin health for thousands of women.
You can see the connection between stress and your skin, but understanding it and knowing how to interrupt it are two different things, and nothing you’ve tried has closed that gap.
The flares are painful and visible, and the shame that follows them is its own kind of exhausting – one that compounds every time you try to push through and can’t.
The time, money, and discipline you’ve invested in routines, supplements, and elimination diets have been real. The results have been disappointing. There’s a clinical reason for that.
That’s why no matter how good your diet is or how potent your prescription, any attempt to fix your skin without addressing the stress driving it will only lead to more flare-ups and more frustration.
THIS is the missing puzzle piece you’ve been searching for.
But the thread was always there. Growing up, kids called me “Coffee Stain Face.” That kind of chronic visibility — having something you can’t cover, can’t explain, can’t control — leaves a mark that goes well beneath the skin.
As a dermatologist, I spent years treating skin conditions the way medicine trained me to. Topicals, prescriptions, protocols. My patients followed every recommendation. Many of them still couldn’t get ahead of the cycle.
It wasn’t until I self-diagnosed my own melanoma that the missing piece came into focus. Skin is not a passive surface. It is densely innervated biological tissue in constant communication with the nervous system — registering threat, expressing stress, and signaling what the body is holding. That understanding changed everything about how I practice.
Because the flares are real, the physiology behind them is real, and the approach that addresses them needs to be equally grounded. Stress history, nervous system patterns, and inflammatory load are all part of what shows up in the skin. The work is specific, science-backed, and designed for women who are already informed and still suffering.
So, why aren’t we talking about it more? Why aren’t we focusing on real, tangible solutions that address this connection? I started blending the science of skin health with somatic practices and psychological insights. It’s become this unique approach I now call somatic psycho-dermatology. My goal is to help people understand that their skin stories are worth listening to and that real healing happens when we get to the root causes, not just the surface symptoms.
I’m here to be the guide help you see that every flare-up is a message, a clue to what’s happening beneath the surface, and that there IS a way out.
